KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Osceola County deputies will be enforcing seat belt laws around the clock.
The seat belt enforcement campaign called Click It or Ticket begins Monday and runs through June 3. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is joining with other state and local law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates across the country to enforce the campaign by cracking down on those who do not wear seat belts.
A press release from the sheriff's office notes a report from the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The report says statistics from 2010 alone showed seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide.
Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansell says drivers and passengers are often not wearing seat belts "and it all too often ends in tragedy."
