Sexual abuse survivor finishes 1,500-mile walk

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Child sexual abuse survivor and victim advocate Lauren Book finished a 1,500 walk through Florida and will now focus on getting bills passed that would create a new tool to prosecute offenders.

Book sprinted to the Old Capitol on Tuesday to finish off the 35-day walk that raises awareness about sexual abuse and seeks to help victims. Gov. Rick Scott, all three Cabinet members, lawmakers and the secretaries for the departments of Children and Families and Juvenile Justice spoke at a rally in front of hundreds of supporters.

Scott told Book, "I'm so impressed with what you've accomplished and the awareness you've raised."

Bills Book wants to see passed this year would raise from 11 to 16 the age in which out-of-court statements from victims could be used at trail.
