Man accused of spraying 'what smelled of urine' arrested

Substance in spray bottle being tested to determine its origins

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Police arrested Radu Calin Chereches on a charge of disorderly conduct after city workers reported he was "spraying something that smelled of urine on the doors and windows of St. George Street."

Officers with the St. Augustine Police Department caught up with Chereches near the Castillo de San Marcos, but he claimed to be of Romania descent and couldn't speak English.

The officers' investigation did reveal a urine-like substance and Chereches was placed under arrest and charged.

The St. Augustine Fire Department picked up the substance in the spray bottle to determine its origins. Firefighters and St. Augustine Public Works employees were cleaning and decontaminating the area.
