Man gets to 20 years for biting deputy's arm

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - After a three-day trial and two hours of deliberation, a St. Johns County jury found Brian Michael Kelly, guilty of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Circuit Judge Wendy Berger proceeded to sentence Kelly to 20 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of probation.

Kelly, 41, was charged after biting a St. Johns County deputy's arm -- drawing blood -- on March 19 while the deputy was trying to detain him.  According  to the police report, Kelly kicked a second deputy while he was taken into custody.

Assistant State Attorney Josh Alexander said Kelly is a registered sex offender who was just released from state prison in August 2011 for sale of cocaine and the sexual offense before this March 2012 incident.
