Man, woman arrested in meth lab raid

Warrant served after 2-week investigation

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - A 38-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested Wednesday after detectives raided their Samara Lakes home off County Road 16 and found a meth lab.

Christopher La Londe and Jennifer Nix, of 958 Wynfield Circle, were each charged with the manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. La Londe was also charged with maintaining a drug dwelling.

Both were booked into the St. Johns County jail.

Detectives with the Sheriff's Office and its SWAT team served that warrant just before 9 a.m. regarding a suspected meth lab following a two-week investigation.

As SWAT members entered the home, they encountered several occupants and an active "cook" operation that was ongoing to manufacture methamphetamine, deputies said.

Investigators said they began a detailed search and cleanup operation of the property, where a marijuana grow operation was also found.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue also responded to the site for precautionary fire measures, as well as decontamination efforts of the personnel entering the home.

For the family of five next door who just moved in Saturday, it was an intense morning.

"We had to go back to the other side of the house while they served the warrant in case the bullets came flying through," one member of the family said. "So they asked us to slide to the other side, they pulled the armored vehicle onto the front lawn, and went in with their (assault rifles) and everything."

The meth lab bust left many in the neighborhood wondering how and why it happened there.

"It's kind of unbelievable," neighbor Sara Tinnesz said. "There's million-dollar homes across the street, you know. And you wouldn't think that something like this would happen in such a nice neighborhood."

Now the house is boarded up, and the family next door is continuing to unpack with no plans to move.
