Sailboat runs aground on Ponte Vedra Beach

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – A sailboat that ran aground on South Ponte Vedra Beach late Thursday remained on the beach Friday.

The boat crashed just north of Vilano Beach, near St. Johns County Fire Station No. 9. The boat steered clear of another vessel and got too close to shore, the owner told News4Jax.

The owner had just purchased the boat on the same day it crashed while he was taking it home to New Smyrna Beach from Jacksonville, he said.

Removing the boat from the beach will reportedly cost $5,000.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the crash.

No injuries were reported.
