St. Augustine city officials talk of ban on transient vendors

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Some St. Augustine city officials say they're tired of the transients, their vending tables and the trash outside the Visitor Information Center, and Monday night started talking about imposing a ban on that activity.

But city attorney Ron Brown says it's not that simple.

Those vendors are already banned, specifically from the Plaza de la Constitucion and St. George Street, but a citywide ban would probably be found unconstitutional.

Brown says the vendors will have to be given someplace to set up their tables.

The St. Augustine City Commission has asked its legal department to research the issue.
