Man accidentally shot in leg while cleaning marina bathrooms, police say

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man was accidentally shot in the leg Tuesday morning at the Oasis Boatyard in St. Augustine when his revolver fell off a banister and discharged, police said.

According to the St. Augustine Police Department, the man, whose name was not released, told police he was cleaning the bathrooms at the marina on Riberia Street, as he does daily, and left his five-shot revolver on a banister.

He said the gun fell off the banister and went off, shooting a round into his left leg, police said.

Officers responding to the 911 call found the man at the front gate, bleeding from his gunshot wound.

Police found the revolver where the man said it would be and took it in as evidence.

The man was taken to Flagler Hospital and then flown to a Jacksonville hospital, but his injury was not life-threatening, police said.

Police said no charges are pending.
