According to the SAPD, Jessica Henries called her sister, Jordan Henries, and her mother, Debra Henries, about 5 p.m. Thursday to tell them Lee had returned to the home and the two had been in a physical fight.

Jordan and Debra Henries came home right away and found Lee still at the apartment, police said.

Lee and the two women had another confrontation in a yard, west of the house, police said. According to the incident report, Debra Henries told police that Lee was "beating on her" and that's when Jordan Henries pulled out a handgun and shot Lee.

“They quickly took the female into custody for their safety, and her safety, that type of thing, then started the initial investigation," SAPD spokesman Mark Samson said.

Jessica Henries, Jordan Henries and Debra Henries were released by police after questioning.

“It very well could be (justified) and that’s why it takes time to do the investigation and get into the apartment the legal way -- collect that information and whatever evidence they can collect and get it to FDLE and study it there then tie the whole story together and come up with a conclusion at the end of it," Samson said.

Debra Henries also told police that Lee had brought drugs to the house before and taped them to the back of a picture frame, according to the report. Investigators were out at the apartment Friday, searching for drugs.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Police Department in the investigation, and an autopsy is being conducted.
