Gas prices tumble weeks after recent hurricanes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good news at the pump! After three-year highs, gas prices are finally starting to go down, now that some time has passed since both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Analysts are expecting those numbers to go down significantly this week. Gas prices could fall 5-10 cents because supply and demand levels are returning to normal.

According to AAA, the current average in the state of Florida was $2.67.

Gas Buddy shows the average price in Jacksonville is $2.65. The lowest price was found at the BJ's on Philips Highway and Baymeadows Road. The price there was $2.54.

A spokesperson for AAA in Florida says if it weren't for recent hurricanes, gas prices would be about 25 cents lower.

Gas prices in the days immediately following Hurricane Harvey was $2.31. That was about a six cent rise before the storm hit Texas. Even then, Jacksonville had some of the cheapest gas with an average of $2.28.
