CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – The U.S. Navy believes a bomb found Tuesday on Cumberland Island was from World War II.

A Camden County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the marine patrol was notified after a Cumberland Island visitor found the ordnance in an eroded sand dune, which was a result of Hurricane Irma and recent nor'easters over the last two months.

The U.S. Park Service and the Sheriff’s Office secured the area until explosive ordnance technicians from Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay could render the bomb safe.

The Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit blew the bomb up.
