WOODBINE, Ga. – A 37-year-old Kingsland woman was arrested last week, accused of setting a car on fire and filing a fraudulent insurance claim.
According to the Camden County Sheriff's Office, firefighters responded May 27, 2013 to a Honda Accord on fire in the parking lot of the Ingleside Apartment complex. It was determined that this fire could not been an electrical fire because there was no power to the car at the time of the fire.
While investigating the fire, Camden County Deputy Greg Jackson, who is also a firefighter and arson investigator, found there was an empty bottle of Sea Foam fuel with the lid removed near the vehicle. Sea Foam fuel is a motor treatment that is used in gas and diesel engines to clean injectors, carburetor jets, stabilize fuel, etc., and is considered highly flammable.
Since the burn patterns inside the vehicle looked suspicious, investigators believed that it was an intentionally set fire.
The car's owner, Kimberly M. Pollock, gave several conflicting statements to State Farm Insurance agents and the Sheriff's Office. She stated that she got the car back from her mechanic about a week before the fire. She told State Farm that she tried to start the car after she got it back, but it would not start. Then later she stated she drove the car once after she got it back.
The mechanic who worked on the car told investigators that he towed the car back to Pollock. He described the engine in the condition that it was found on the day of the fire and he stated that the car was not in operable condition when it was returned to Pollock.
Pollock (CCSO booking photo above) was arrested and charged with arson in the third-degree and filing a fraudulent claim.
