GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – The Glynn County School System’s waiver to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students has been extended through Oct. 20.
Granted by the U.S. Department of Education at the request of the Georgia Department of Education, the waiver provides counties affected by Hurricane Irma with flexibility in meal planning in addition to free meals for all students.

“Glynn was one of several counties that received a waiver extension to help families to continue to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Irma,” said Dawn Lewis, the school system’s director of culinary services. “As with the initial waiver, this is a blanket waiver and parents do not need to do anything for their student to continue receiving free meals through Oct. 20. This also gives families a chance to reapply for free and reduced meal benefits if they had a change in income due to the hurricane, however, students who applied and are receiving free meal benefits during this school year do not need to reapply."
Applications for free and reduced-price meals are available on the school system web site at www.glynn.k12.ga.us or can be picked up and completed in person at district schools.
“Parents can go to their child’s school or our office at Risley Annex and we will provide them with access to computers to apply for free and reduced price lunch as well,” Lewis said.

Duval County Public Schools in Florida had already set its free meals for students after the hurricane to continue through Oct. 20.
