The newspaper reported a Glynn County Patrol officer clocked two vehicles going 104 mph on U.S. Highway 82 about 2:30 a.m. The officer turned on his emergency lights and pursued the Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang. The Charger stopped, but the driver of the Mustang continued.

As the original officer awaited backup, the driver of the Mustang walked up “out of breath and extremely scared," telling the officer that he had crashed, according to the report obtained by the Brunswick News.

Police found the car lying on its side with a young woman dead and a male passenger trapped inside.

The young man was cut from the car by paramedics and flown by air ambulance to UF Health in Jacksonville. The driver was taken to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital for evaluation.

Glynn County police told the newspaper that the driver was wearing a seat belt but the two passengers were not.

The names of those involved will be released when the Georgia State Patrol completes the accident report, perhaps on Thursday.
