House Republican leaders could move quickly during the 2018 legislative session to try to shut down red-light cameras.
The House Appropriations Committee next week is scheduled to take up a bill (HB 6001), filed by Rep. Bryan Avila, R-Hialeah, and Rep. Blaise Ingoglia, R-Spring Hill, that would repeal state laws that allow local governments to use red-light cameras in traffic enforcement.

The bill has not been assigned to other committees, meaning that approval by the Appropriations Committee could prepare it to go to the full House when the 2018 session starts in January.
The House passed a repeal bill during the 2017 session, but the measure died in the Senate.
Sen. Travis Hutson, R-St. Augustine, has filed a repeal bill (SB 176) for the 2018 session.
That bill has been assigned to four Senate committees.
