Troubled BBQ plant tied to councilwoman could be up for auction

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A family business tied to Jacksonville City Councilwoman Katrina Brown is facing more trouble.

Brown's family owns Jerome Brown Barbeque, and received grants and a loan from the city for close to $600,000 to begin the business.

The plant where the group promised to create new jobs that never materialized could now be auctioned off June 29 to pay off outstanding debts.

A bank in Louisiana has first dibs on the property because it is out nearly $3 million from a loan it gave the company to operate the plant in Jacksonville.

The city also has an outstanding lawsuit against the company to repay a $210,000 grant.
