JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 52-year-old woman is dead and another person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following a fiery, three-vehicle crash on Bowden Road, near Belfort Road and Gate Parkway.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. According to an eyewitness, two of the vehicles involved came close to running that witness and another motorist off the road.

"I was driving down Bowden Road, and a car came up behind me and at about 100 mph, and I had to veer off the side of the road, and another ran into a ditch to get around me, because he tried to squeeze between us two," said the eyewitness, who wished to not be identified. "It was an SUV with a Honda chasing behind him, and they both flew around us. When they got a block past us, there was an explosion, like a bomb went off."

Investigators said there was a head-on collision involving another vehicle that was coming in the opposite direction. Investigators confirm the collision caused an explosion.

Juana Garcia was killed in the crash, police said.

"One of the vehicles was fully engulfed in fire," said Lt. Robert Turner, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

News4Jax received a call from a woman in a nearby neighborhood who said the impact from the crash shook her home.

"That could have been me by five seconds, and the other car saved my life by running into a ditch to let him around me," the eyewitness said.

A third person who was also involved in the crash was said to be OK and did not need medical attention.
