JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 19-year-old man died and a 16-year-old was injured in a shooting early Saturday morning outside a house party in the Sandalwood area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers were called to 2800 Coachman Lakes Drive around 1:30 a.m. Willie Johnson died at the scene due to an apparent gunshot wound. A 16-year-old was also shot, according to investigators. He was taken to UF Heath Jacksonville, and officers said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened in the street outside the home, according to investigators. They said it was a large party and they were questioning several witnesses.

"We've taken a large group of people downtown as well to interview to determine exactly what happened," said Sgt. Jay Farhat, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Farhat said investigators are trying to figure out who held the party and who was in attendance.

"There may have been some type of altercation, we understand, at that party that spilled out into the street, and that's where the shooting occurred," said Farhat.

"I was on my way home and my parents called me and said there's people shooting outside my house and I was like why would there be a shooting outside my house?  This is a quiet community," said Mario Zechu, who lives in the area.

Police have not released any details about a suspect.
