2 shot on Westside, one man dies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two men were shot on the Westside late Thursday night and one of them died, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police responded around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to Leland Street, which is not far from I-10 and King Street.

Taurus Dawson, 30, was shot in the head and died on the way to the hospital.  Another person was shot in the leg and was expected to recover, according to Sgt. Shawn Coarsey with JSO.

The second victim's name was not released on Monday when JSO released Dawson's identity.

Investigators found shell casings, but it's unclear how many they found, Sgt. Coarsey said.

At this time, police do not have any suspect information. Police were on the scene interviewing possible witnesses early Friday morning.
