JSO: 2 women shot while stopped at busy Beach Boulevard intersection

Women drove across traffic to escape gunfire during midday shooting, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two women were shot, and one of them was critically injured, Thursday morning as they sat in a car at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Parental Home Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said the call about the shooting came in just before 11:30 a.m.

Investigators said the women were in a red Dodge Charger that was in the southbound lanes of Parental Home Road on the north side of Beach Boulevard when a vehicle pulled up behind them, possibly a silver Cadillac sedan.

Police said two people got out of the Cadillac and shot into the Charger several times, wounding both women. One suffered life-threatening injuries.

The women drove across multiple lanes of traffic, trying to escape the gunfire and ended up stopped behind a nearby car repair shop, police said.

“It’s very busy,” Lt. Shannon Hartley said of the intersection. “Very lucky that nothing worse happened there certainly.”

Police did not have a description of the two shooters but said witnesses who saw different parts of the incident were cooperating, and investigators are hoping to piece together that information with surveillance video to get a picture of what happened and who they are looking for.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting or if the victims knew their attackers.

Police said the shooters’ vehicle drove off westbound, possibly over the river.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
