JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized with critical injuries Friday morning after he was shot several times on Jacksonville’s Westside, authorities said.
Officers were called to the intersection of Brannon Avenue and Firetower Road about 8 a.m., where they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The unnamed man was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Office said investigators have no details about a suspect or motive at this time.
Residents who live in the neighborhood told News4Jax they’re concerned about crime in the area. A neighbor recalled hearing at least seven gunshots ring out before he went outside to see what was going on.
“I am moving out in June — we are not renewing our lease," the man said. "This is the second time something like this has happened. The first time this happened near my street and it happened to an individual that I had an encounter with, so it freaks me out.
“I have never talked to somebody that got shot the next day and it freaked me out,” he added." And the fact that I don’t show any sadness about it freaks me out too. You know, it’s the neighborhood, but I am trying to get out."
