Police: Shooting victims hit man, dog while fleeing gunshots on Jacksonville’s Northside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people who were driving along a Jacksonville road were hit by gunfire Monday evening and then struck a man and a dog while pulling into the parking lot of a convenience store, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the two people were struck by gunfire from a “known individual.”

Sgt. Lance, with the Sheriff’s Office, said the shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. The driver, Lance said, then fled the area, driving up to the gas station.

A witness told News4Jax the driver pulled on the curb of the gas station’s convenience store, hitting a concrete pole where the dog was tied while its owner was inside.

As the owner of the dog exited the store, he and the dog were hit by the vehicle.

“Upon entering the parking lot, the victim’s vehicle struck an adult male and his dog who were unrelated to the original incident,” Lance explained.

Lance said the dog died from its injuries. The man was hospitalized for treatment of injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Police said the two who were shot have non-life-threatening injuries.
