JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting last year in Arlington, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
On June 9, 2021, according to JSO, officers responded to an apartment complex on Townsend Boulevard, where they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said the man, 32, was taken to a hospital, where died from his injuries.
Police said at the time that it appeared that the man who was shot was meeting with two other men in the parking lot of the apartment complex and that the two other men fled the scene in separate cars.
According to JSO, investigators identified Darien Howard as a suspect in the shooting death, and an arrest warrant was obtained.
Howard, 31, was located in Virginia with the help of the Newport News Police Department and was then extradited to Jacksonville, JSO said.
He is charged with second-degree murder, police said. As of Monday, Howard was being held in the Duval County jail without bond, online jail records show.
Police have not announced another arrest in the case.
