2 deadly shootings, 2 hours apart in nearby Jacksonville neighborhoods

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate shootings that happened early Sunday morning within two hours of each other.

There have now been 136 homicides in Jacksonville so far this year, according to JSO, which is more than all of 2021 when there was a total of 128.

The first shooting happened just before 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of Myrtle Avenue.

According to JSO, a man was found behind a home with at least one fatal gunshot wound.

Then, around 4 a.m., JSO said it found a man who was shot lying dead in the middle Orion Street in the Mixontown neighborhood.

The man, who was shot at least once, is between 50 and 60 years old, police said.

JSO said the two shootings are not connected, even though they happened less than two miles from each other.

No suspect information has been released.
