21-year-old injured in fight outside Georgia-Florida game

Police arrest man after brutal fight outside Jacksonville's EverBank Field

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Channel 4 is learning more about the 21-year-old victim of a beating outside EverBank Field on Saturday afternoon who remains hospitalized at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

According to the police report, William Ross Cesery III was beaten unconscious by James Colby during a fight by a retention pond off Adams Street.

Police say Colby, 20, told them he intervened in what he thought was going to be a fight between Cesery and another man during the first half of the Georgia-Florida game.

Police say Colby admitted to punching Cesery (pictured, right) several times in the face and head, then pushing Cesery to the ground.  According to the report, Colby said Cesery grabbed him by the ankles, and after they both fell in the water, he punched Cesery three times, knocking him out.  That's when he said he noticed blood in the water and pulled Cesery out of the water.

Colby was arrested and booked into the Duval County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery.

Police said no weapons were involved in the fight, but it was too early to know what the fight was about of if alcohol was involved.

"There's a lot of people partying, however homicide just got on the scene ... so they're going to sort through all those details," Officer Melissa Bujeda said at the scene Saturday night.

Detectives interviewed dozens of people who saw the fight, but most that Channel 4 talked with said they weren't close enough to know what the fight was about.

"They wouldn't let us get anywhere near it, but from what I've heard someone got drug in the water and tried drowning him," one football fan said.
