3 Middleburg teens in SUV fleeing deputies hit pickup truck

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old from Middleburg, were arrested in Columbia County early Saturday morning after running a red light and the SUV they were in crashed into a pickup truck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol a 13-year-old boy was driving the SUV on Southwest Pinemount Road, trying to get away from Columbia County Sheriff's deputies at about 6:15 a.m. Saturday.

The SUV ran the red light and struck a pickup that was passing through the intersection of Pinemount and U.S. 90. The two boys and a girl were not hurt and were arrested.

A husband and wife in the pickup were taken to Shands in Lake City with minor injuries.

The FHP cited the 13-year-old who was driving with failing to stop for an accident with injuries, not having a valid driver's license and two other traffic infractions.  The charges the three teens face in Columbia County were not immediately available.
