7 months after killing, 22-year-old victim's family, friends seek answers

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Whoever shot and killed 22-year-old Amber Bass in her own driveway in July is still on the loose.

No one has been arrested in the case and police are still looking for Bass' purse.

Nearly seven months since her death, Bass' family and friends are still looking for answers as to why she was killed.

"It is unreal. It is just unreal," said Barbara Bass, Amber's mother. "Every day, you wake up thinking this is just not true."

Bass said it's a living nightmare knowing her daughter is gone and not knowing why. That's why family and friends of Bass continue to get out on the streets, hoping someone will step forward with information about her killing.

"Someone has to know something," Bass said.

Bass was shot and killed at her family's home on Springtree Road on the Westside of Jacksonville, near the intersection of Foreaker and Old Middleburg roads.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is handling the case, but Bass' friends and family held up signs in front of the Clay County Courthouse on Monday, hoping it could lead to a tip that could help solve the killing.

"We've been doing a lot in Duval and we decided to spread to Clay County because this is where Amber grew up and this is where she was her last night," family friend Susan Singer said.

Friends said the night Bass died, she was at Mercury Moon off County Road 220 in Clay County.

One of her friends who was out with her was at the courthouse getting the word out. She said the loss of her friend is still hard for her.

"I left before she did and I woke up the next day with a phone call and words just couldn't describe it," Adriel Finley said.

Bass' parents have had a difficult time since her death.

"We just got through going through the holidays without her," said Keith Bass, Amber's father. "It's very painful. We weren't even here, in fact. We just had to go somewhere because it was too painful to even stay in the house."

"Amber was just such a good girl," Barbara Bass said. "She wasn't a rowdy person. I just don't understand how anyone can do this to such an innocent person."

Family and friends say they plan to gather every month until Bass' killer is caught.

Anyone with any information about her death is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
