Police say Hicks (pictured, right, in previous booking photo), who goes by the nickname "Cowboy," was involved with a shooting May 7 at the Canterbury Garden Apartments on Lane Avenue.

JSO Lt. Mike Beckman said police developed information that Hicks was at an acquaintance's apartment about 5 a.m. Friday morning.  Once confirming Hicks was inside but refused to come out, a SWAT team and a police negotiator was deployed.

Once neighboring units were evacuated and the SWAT team deployed tear gas, Hicks came out and was taken into custody without incident.

Police moved out and the complex was reopened to residents and visitors about 2 p.m.
