Police say no signs of foul play

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. - Clay County Sheriff's Office members are mourning the death of 46-year-old Detention Deputy Brian Cason.

Coworkers became concerned when Cason did not arrive Wednesday night at the Clay County jail for his shift.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was contacted and a wellness check was conducted at Cason's home in Jacksonville.

Police entered the home and found Cason dead in his bed. Preliminary information provided by police to the Clay County Sheriff's Office is that there were no signs of foul play. The Jacksonville Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.

Cason was hired by the Sheriff's Office in July 2012. His supervisors and coworkers describe him as a hard-working, helpful, quiet man. Prior to joining the Sheriff's Office, he worked for the Florida State Prison System.

He was married with adult children and his next-of-kin were notified.

JSO is the lead agency in the investigation. The cause of death is considered undetermined at this time until an autopsy is complete.

Visitation for Cason will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park. Funeral and Burial will follow at the cemetery.
