Keiyon'tre Merritt indicted on capital first-degree felony murder while armed charge

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A Columbia County Grand Jury returned an indictment on a capital first-degree felony murder while armed charge on a 21-year-old man in the shooting death of 32-year-old Misty Dawn Harper, authorities said Friday.

Keiyon'tre Merritt, 21, is currently incarcerated at the Columbia County Detention Center awaiting trial related to the June 27, 2013, double shooting, which resulted in the death of 30-year-old Christopher McConell.

Around 5:45 a.m. on March 9, 2013, the Lake City Police Department arrived in the 1100 block of North Marion Avenue south of SR-100A, after Harper was shot while walking on Marion Avenue.

Police said Harper (pictured) died from her injuries the following day.

A deputy from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office was in the area of North Marion Avenue and SR-100A when he heard a gunshot. Police said the deputy found Harper lying in the roadway around 5:43 a.m.

"Through the tireless investigative efforts and the countless leads as pursued by Investigator David Greear and the other assisting agencies and their investigators, today, 15 months after this homicide occurred, justice is one step closer in this case," said Chief Argatha Gilmore.
