Conveyer belt starts steel plant fire

Fire fighters battled Westside steel manufacturing plant fire Saturday morning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A conveyer belt led to a two-alarm fire at a Westside steel manufacturing plant Saturday morning, according to officials with the Jacksonville Fire-Rescue Department.

Some time after 8 a.m. a fire started at the plant off Yellow Water Road on the Westside.

An official with JFRD tells Channel 4 a rubber conveyer belt that carries heavy material caught on fire.

Firefighters had some water issues because the plan is tucked away from the road so it took a little longer to put the fire out, according to the JFRD official.

Firefighters were done putting out the fire around noon. No one was in the building at the time if the fire and there are no reported injuries.
