Crews suspend search after paddleboat recovered

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Coast Guard suspended its search for a person or people in the water at about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah, Ga., and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Mayport searched east of St. Augustine for people in the water after a report of an unmanned paddleboat in the area about 57 miles east of shore.

The Coast Guard boat crew reported the paddleboat had marine growth and showed no signs of distress. No people were found in the search area.

The crew aboard the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville they spotted the unmanned yellow paddleboat Monday at about 9 a.m., prompting the search.
