JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A cross-country thief was convicted Wednesday evening on two counts of armed robbery.

In April 2009, 33-year-old Terrance Hightower held up a man and a woman walking to their car on Margaret Street. Hightower approached the couple, pointed a handgun and demanded their purse and wallet. He then fled the area.

Six days after the crime, the woman was contacted by police in New Jersey. Hightower was arrested there in connection with a robbery. New Jersey officers found the Jacksonville victim's purse and driver's license in Hightower's car at the time of his arrest.

Hightower is a habitual felony offender with two burglary convictions out of Volusia County. He is also a prison release re-offender having committed the robbery within three years of being released from prison.

Hightower now faces mandatory life in prison and will be sentenced the week of Feb. 19.
