JULINGTON CREEK, Fla. - A 19-year-old Jacksonville man reported a botched drug deal that turned into an attempted armed robbery and ended in a shooting Monday night in a Julington Creek parking lot, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the man was shot outside a Moe's restaurant in the 400 block of State Road 13 North. They said he drove himself to Baptist Medical Center South and was then flown to UF Health Jacksonville.

The victim told a Jacksonville police officer at the hospital that he was sitting in his vehicle waiting for an alleged drug transaction when a man jumped into the back seat and held a gun to his head. The robber demanded
everything he had, deputies said.

The victim said he grabbed the gun, and the two men struggled with the weapon before it discharged once into the victim's lower chest area.

The shooter then fled and the victim drove himself to the hospital, deputies said. He was listed in stable condition
following surgery.

Anyone with any information concerning the identity of the shooter is asked to call the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-824-8304 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
