Deputies say suspect charged with second degree murder, attempted second degree murder

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Detectives are investigating what they say appears to be a deliberate act that caused the death of a pedestrian and sent another to the hospital.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened just after 5:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Bank of America, located in the 4300 block of U.S. 1 South.

Deputies said the 24-year-old suspect, Candace Kiara Jackson, has been detained and is being questioned by investigators.

One person, identified as 56-year-old Rosa Lee Armstrong, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said her 22-year-old daughter, Shaina Armstrong, was transported to Flagler Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Initial information received by deputies indicates that Jackson and the victims knew one another, and the incident is believed to be the result of an altercation.

Deputies said Jackson has been charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be released as they are received.
