Family pleads for help finding Baker County woman

Sharon Jackson last heard from a week ago, investigators say

MACCLENNY, Fla. – The sister of a 56-year-old Baker County woman who disappeared eight days ago is putting up posters, hoping someone knows something about what happened to Sharon Jackson.

The woman's Chevrolet Equinox was found the next day along Highway 47, just south of Lake City in Columbia County. Deputies said Jackson's purse was still in the SUV, but its contents had been scattered around.

"It's always unsettling to find something like that because people usually have their belongings with them," said Murray Smith with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. "We went to every house, basically, within walking distance of where the car was to see if, maybe, she had engine problems."

Family members said it's not like Jackson to disappear without contacting family.

"At this point my biggest fear is the length of time (between) where her car was found and when the search began for her, that it's going to be too late," said Cathy Hooper, Jackson's older sister.

Authorities said the are no clues and no leads in her disappearance.? Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson told News4Jax they do not suspect foul play at this point, but that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement might get involved in the case.

Family and friends said Jackson is mentally sharp, but she's still recovering from recent shoulder surgery. They just want her found safe.

"I'm praying she is (OK)," said Jackson's friend, JoAnn Alderman. "That's all I can do. I don't want to think otherwise. I won't allow myself to think that way. I have to think that she is alive."

Jackson is described as 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds.

Anyone who knows anything that can help investigators is asked to call Baker County police at 904-259-2861.
