Father, son arrested in St. Aug. Beach 'drug house'

Investigators deemed home an established drug dwelling

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. - A father and son were arrested Friday in a drug house in St. Augustine Beach, according to the Police Department.

Daniel Francis Cantu, 21, and Daniel Earnest Cantu, 60, who were living in the home at 984 Saltwater Circle, are charged with cultivation of marijuana, public nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Acting on a tip, police moved in around 6:30 a.m. Friday. Police said they found drugs, paraphernalia and manufacturing equipment associated with unlawful drug activity and use inside the home.

Investigators deemed the home an established drug dwelling.

Police said there had been many complaints about possible drug activity in the home. Neighbors are glad police moved in when they did.

"It's unnerving, for sure, having four small children in our house. It's definitely uncomfortable," said neighbor Megan Nettles. "I'm glad someone told them."

Some neighbors News4Jax talked to describe the area as very quiet, not the kind you'd expect something like this to happen. But one person said a meth lab was broken up last year about a half mile north. It has some wondering, just what is going on in this area?

"You have no idea what's going on around here. I expected a family neighborhood," said neighbor Graham Peskett. "You just don't know what's going on in your own neighborhood."

When we asked neighbors what they knew of the Cantus, they said both mostly kept to themselves. For now, the two are in the St. Johns County Jail. Their neighbors are ready for things to return to normal.

"So thankful that they found it and nothing bad happened, for sure, and that it was taken care of quickly," one resident said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
