Unclear if driver of pickup truck that struck motorcycle officer will face charges

President Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of thousands at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Sunday.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A Jupiter police officer was killed while working on President Barack Obama's motorcade through West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The officer was identified as Bruce St. Laurent, who was a 20-year veteran of the force, 18 of them as a member of the motorcycle patrol team.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies told WPBF-TV that the crash happened on the entrance to Interstate 95 at 45th Street in West Palm Beach.

Investigators said St. Laurent was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. He was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said it's not clear whether the driver of the truck will face charges.

The crash is being investigated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.
