JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An Ed White High School student was arrested Wednesday morning after a gun was found on campus, according to Duval County school officials.

A spokeswoman for Duval County Public Schools said the school was conducting a random search when the weapon was found.

Roderick Richards Jr., 16, was arrested on a felony charge and faces disciplinary action based on the district's code of conduct.

Police said when the searched the students, they found an Eagle Arms .38 special six shot in Richards' right sock, partly tucked into his ankle boot. Police said the gun was fully loaded.

Richards told police he has problems outside school and brought the gun because he was going to walk to his friend's house after school, according to a police report.

"I didn't want to get caught with one of the people I have problems with," he said, according to the report.

Richards was arrested and booked into the Duval County jail.
