71-year-old assault victim dies at hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 71-year-old man brought to UF Health at Jacksonville on August 31 after he was assaulted died on Friday morning.

The victim, whose name was not released, was thought to have suffered minor injuries in the assault, but was also suffering from other, unspecified medical issues.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detectives were called to the hospital when he died, but they will await the medical examiner's determination of cause of death before proceeding on the investigation.
