8 units affected by apartment fire

JFRD, Red Cross respond to early morning apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Fire-Rescue, along with the American Red Cross, responded to a fire around 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Preserve at Cedar River in the 4200 block of Confederate Point Road.

Eight units within the complex were affected, according to the Red Cross. No outside damage was scene on the units, but windows were open Tuesday morning.

Residents told Channel 4 at the scene that units were destroyed, but the Red Cross said there is only smoke and water damage.

Officials on scene were not able to say the cause of the fire, but one resident said they believed it was an electrical fire and that eight units were without power.

The Red Cross was assisting the families.
