JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The burn ban expansion restricting bonfires, campfires and ceremonial fires in Duval County has been lifted, city officials announced Thursday.
The ban, which expanded on the county's year-round burn ban, was enacted May 11 as smoke filtering down from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge caused health concerns throughout Northeast Florida.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said all outdoor fires would be banned until June 1 or until conditions improve.
With the large amount of rain dumped on the First Coast over the last several days, the ban was lifted ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
Jacksonville's year-round burn ban on burning yard debris and trash without an open burning permit remains in effect.
