Copper stolen from church AC unit, again

Thieves stole entire AC unit last year

Headline Goes Here

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Westside church was victimized by copper thieves this week after previously falling victim to the same crime.

The pastor at the Divine Truth and Deliverance Ministry said Wednesday night he was feeling warm, so he turned on his AC unit. Then, he said, things got warmer. He went outside and saw that the copper elements had been stolen from the unit.

Pastor Carl Dole said he's disappointed.

"For me it's sad because we try to reach out to the community," Dole said. "It's kind of heart wrenching because the same people you're trying to reach out to are the ones that are taking from those that are trying to receive."

Sometime last week, Dole said thieves went to the back of his church and cut out all the copper lining from his air conditioning unit. He said they also took metal scaffoldings worth hundreds of dollars.

About a year ago, Dole said people ripped out the entire AC unit to get to the copper inside. Members of the church had a hard time believing it could happen twice in such a short time.

"It's disheartening to see what the world is coming to these days where people would actually take stuff from the church," Tony White said.

Dole estimates the recent damages to be around $1,250. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
