Dog found chained in yard since Irma to be up for adoption

PETA says dog currently recovering from cold

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A dog found earlier this month abandoned and chained in a yard on Jacksonville's Northside since Hurricane Irma will be up for adoption soon, according to a spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals office in Washington, D.C.

Police learned the person who lives at the home on Ken Knight Drive in the Ribault neighborhood had left after the house flooded last month during Hurricane Irma, and the animal's owner left the dog tethered in the yard.

Sofia Mobili, spokeswoman for the PETA office in Washington, D.C., told News4Jax on Friday that the dog passed a temporary hold that the shelter had in place in case an owner came forward.

Mobili said a veterinarian evaluated the dog and noticed the animal had come down with a cold.

The dog is not aggressive and will be ready for adoption once the cold passes, Mobili said.

News4Jax was told the dog is currently at Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services shelter on Forest Street.
