Ferry task force goes online

Group plans to attend next Jax Port Authority meeting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A group working to keep the St. Johns River Ferry Service running set up a website and pages on social media sites to organize its supporters and communicate their message.

The St. Johns River Ferry Task Force hopes their new website, www.savethestjohnsriverferry.org, will bring supporters to the Feb. 27 meeting of the Jacksonville Port Authority board.

"It should be made clear that the ferry is still running, and our goal is to be sure the service is uninterrupted," task force chair Elaine Brown said in a release. "Should the service stop, people will be forced to cross the river at the Dames Point Bridge, adding as many as 20 miles to what are often daily commutes."
