JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man who police said admitted to killing his ex-wife and taking her body to Missouri to bury it in 2014 has been convicted of second-degree murder, the State Attorney's Office announced Friday.
Jeffrey Alan Mackey, 62, now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, with a minimum-mandatory of 25 years. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.

Court documents show Mackey shot and killed his ex-wife, Kimberly Mackey, 48, in May 2014 and took her body to Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
Kimberley Mackey had last been on May 26 of that year at her Suni Pines Boulevard home on Jacksonville's Southside.
Police said a neighbor saw Jeffrey Mackey loading what appeared to be a blanket with a body into his car. They said Mackey drove 1,100 miles across five states with Kimberly Mackey's body and buried her in Missouri. Her body was found in a gully.
While in Missouri, Mackey was interviewed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Mackey told detectives he traveled to see his son and had not seen his ex-wife for several days. After that interview, Mackey withdrew large amounts of money from his bank accounts and left Excelsior Springs without his belongings.
Days later, Mackey was found in St. Augustine and agreed to return to Jacksonville for an interview.
During that time, he admitted to killing Kimberly Mackey, transporting and burying her body, and hiding the firearm used in the crime.
