JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University has a new president.

Tim Cost introduced himself Thursday to students, staff and alumni, but he's not a new face to JU.

Cost is a 1981 alumnus of the university. That's the first thing he'll tell you.

"I've gotten to say that everywhere I go for 30-plus years, and it's always been a part of my resume and I'm very proud of it," Cost said.

He's been a busy man, having worked several decades in top-level corporate positions, and he says he's ready to face the new challenge of leading his alma mater.

"I think the most important thing I can do now when I come in is listen -- listen to what the faculty and students and the staff have to say," Cost said.

He is replacing current JU President Kerry Romesburg, who is retiring after leading the university for nine years.

Cost was selected from more than 80 candidates.

"It's great to be back, and it was a thrill to even be nominated, and the chance to come back and work with the faculty and staff that are here, it's very exciting," Cost said.

As far as what Cost wants to do once his reign starts, one idea he has is to grow the student population. He mentioned possibly adding 100 students a year.

"There's no question, though, we have an opportunity to get slightly larger," Cost said. "We can accommodate it, our faculty can handle it, and we're always looking for better students, and we love the Jacksonville students."

Another important priority he has is involving the campus with the Jacksonville community.

"JU should play an important role," Cost said. "We have great students, they work here, we recruit from here. It's a good time for JU to be connected."

Although the announcement was made Thursday, the transition takes time. Cost will officially become JU's president on July 1.
