Man falls off paddleboard at Huguenot Park, drowns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 64-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon after falling off his paddleboard at Huguenot Park, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.

A woman paddleboarding with Lawrence Lee LaClair told police she saw him slip off and fall into water. She tried to reach him with her paddleboard, but unable to due the strong current.

Two witnesses told police they swam out to LaClair, who was face down in the water for 5 minutes before they could get to him, pull him out and start CPR.

Multiple witnesses were performing CPR when police and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel arrived, the report said.

A lifeguard also assisted in CPR.

LaClair was brought to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.
