JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man is in custody after attempting to enter an Arlington bank with what appeared to be a handgun and a mask, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, police said, a white man, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, attempted to enter the side door of Fifth Third Bank on Merrill Road in Arlington.

Police said the man was wearing a bandanna mask over his face and a hood over his head.

The suspect did not enter the bank because he could not open the door because it was locked. According to JSO, it was an "exit only" door.

The suspect then fled on his bicycle, eastbound on Merrill Road and was taken into custody a short distance away by a Patrol Officer.

Police have not yet said what the suspect's intent was.
