Nearly 700 guns turned in at buyback event

$50 for any gun, no questions asked

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fifty dollars for any gun, no questions asked. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office held a gun buyback Saturday at North Jacksonville Baptist Church.

The event is part of a big push from JSO to get unwanted guns off the streets.

The Police Athletic League also receives a $50 donation from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund for each gun.

Officers at the buyback called it a great turnout.

"We had a steady stream of people throughout the day. It's a great way for people to get rid of unwanted guns in a safe manner," said Chief Ron Lendvay.

During three different buybacks over the last year, JSO received more than 2,000 guns.

At Saturday's event, police say over 690 guns were turned in.
